Tivoli´s third Glassalen, Christensen´s Belle Terrasse and our The Paul… Sketches for Tivolis new Glassalen were completed by the infamous Danish architect Poul Henningsen during the mid-forties. He drew as Architect-in-Chief for Tivoli gardens up until Simon Henningsen, his son, took over the reigns in the early fifties. Originally drawn as a dancehall, the building opened in all of its grandeur as a luxury theatre with the added bonus of the restaurant Belle Terrasse. Run at the time by the restaurateur of the time, Hr. Kurt Christensen. Kings, Queens, Dukes and Duchesses dined alongside Princes, Princesses, Presidents and Ministers.

Belle Terrasse was for many, many years the very talk of Copenhagen. Fine French cuisine, superb Danish smørrebrød and a wine cellar to die for It was indeed Tivoli’s star gourmet attraction. With enormous pride, I opened restaurant The Paul within this Grande Dame on April 11, 2003. My aim, to regain the recognition, to re-ignite the magic and to rekindle the splendour of those days gone by. I think, I hope that we are on our way.
